The Ran Dhihafaheh series, «Golden 50», was issued for the fiftieth anniversary of Maldivian independence: it is the first entirely new family of Maldivian money in more than thirty years, and all its values are printed by De La Rue on Safeguard polymer.
The hundred's theme is «nationalism and our native language»: Maldivians in traditional dress and a woman in a libaas embroidering its neckline, against the old Maldivian alphabet Dives Akuru. The back shows an early written record in the Dhivehi language, the Dambidū Lōmāfānu.
The designs are by the Maldivian artist Abdullah Nashaath, winner of a competition, and each note has its own theme; tactile marks help the visually impaired. The series is dated 5 October 2015 and entered circulation in January 2016, replacing the paper money with the sailing boat.
For a Maldives collection this is a piece of the anniversary polymer series, and for a writing-systems theme it offers an old alphabet and an early Dhivehi text. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
